As a tradesman, there are two groups of clients for you to focus on. Those who will hear about your business from word of mouth, and those who need another method to find you. You need to focus on both of these audiences to ensure a constant line-up of work.
Word of mouth
Word of mouth is the traditional way to get new clients, and it’s as important nowadays as it ever was. If someone needs contract work done, the first thing they do is approach friends and family to ask for referrals. As such, your first job is to keep clients happy and provide a professional service with a high-quality end product. This will help with our second group, too.
It’s these other people who are the hardest to attract. Those who don’t know your company. While the Yellow Pages and local business organisations were people’s previous go-to, these days the first search is done online. As such, a strong internet presence is critical. It unfortunately can get complicated, but at a minimum a basic website displaying services, references and contact details is required. Bonus points are given for any social media accounts, especially ones like Yelp and Facebook, which let you interact with clients and receive reviews.
The latest generation of clients is heading to the internet to find their contractors. The easier they can find you, and view examples and reviews of your work, the more likely you are to be hired. Posted: Friday, January 20th, 1:09pm 3 years ago
