Louis and I had such a fun conversation. I was lucky enough to talk to Louis twice, and in the green room he gave me some great positioning advice for my new software project that I'm working on each day for when this is all over.
We talked about connectivity, relationships and what he did when his family business faced a recession. Louis reminds our listeners that "you have a larger network than you know" and encourages everyone to ask for help from their network as well as do specific things at this time to keep building those relationships.
For those who are trying to stay relevant, Louis talked about getting retro and picking up the phone to call people in your network to see how they're doing, including friends, previous customers and potential customers — with no intention other than to see how they're doing.
A born and bred Calgarian, he graduated from the University of Calgary with an engineering degree and has over 25 years of business experience as the owner/operator of a manufacturing business here in Calgary with over 125 employees.
Louis' career started in consulting engineering, and most recently, since selling the family business, he has completed numerous interim contracts; these include upstream oil and gas, modular building manufacturing, design and supply of environmentally friendly co-generation facilities, a start-up manufacturer of touchless car washes, and most recently for something completely different, private healthcare!
Louis has held board positions on the University of Calgary Alumni Board, the Howard Foundation, as well as the Young President’s Organization (Alberta Chapter), Corpath, and the Calgary Economic Development MAC Committee.
Currently a member of the Young President's Organization and numerous industry-related organizations.
