It's super important to write mobile-friendly content on your website, your blog and social media because most people will see your content on their cell phones. And remember, you've only got 3 - 7 seconds to capture their attention, so your mobile-friendly formatting will help them scan your content to make sure it's a good fit for them.
On mobile, people are scanning, and they're multi-tasking. They want to get through your content as fast as possible to see if it's worth their time to check it out.
You want to make sure they read it so they can see what an expert you are and that they should do business with you. Good content also means faster and better conversions.
Here's a quick checklist of how to make sure they have a great experience when they're reading your content:
When you're writing for the web, it's not like a university paper — it's the web. So you want to leave a lot of white space in between to make sure it's easy to read quickly.
Using bullet points helps you avoid long paragraphs when you're explaining something. The bullet points also draw the eye to what you're saying. They're great for when your visitor is speed reading. You can use them to summarize what you're saying after you've explained a concept. Take a look:
Using headings at the beginning of your sections helps the reader understand what they're reading about. It's like giving them a "heads-up" on the content. We recommend using headings every 2 to 3 paragraphs or when you're talking about a new concept.
In 'traditional' writing you would have used a paragraph to explain an entire concept or idea, and your paragraph would have had 5 or 6 sentences in it. In mobile writing, you need to break those sentences up, so you've got 3 paragraphs for that one idea. So use the headings to show that you're starting a new concept.
For people doing the 3-second scan of your content, headings let them see the whole picture before they dig in a little deeper to check out the details.
Don't forget to use your marketing-best-practices and add a call-to-action at the end: Something you want your visitor to do. Tell them exactly what to do next — especially for a blog or interior page on your website.
