I was recently discussing with Terry, one of our graphic designers, how the home page of a client's website looked on my laptop. I realized that I have a really big laptop and that what I'm seeing is not going to be the same experience for everyone, so I started to do some research on how I could see different screen sizes — so I could really see what my customers and their end-users are experiencing.
Took me a while to figure out the right solution, and then I found a great Google Chrome extension for my browser. So then!!! I thought, hey, I should share some of the cool tools I use so that my readers can benefit from using them too!
Here they are in no particular order.
A handy extension that automatically resizes your browser window so you can see websites the different ways that your end client sees them. From smaller laptops to tablets to cell phones.
Because now, when you're designing something, you can see what the user experience is going to be. Especially on your sales pages, do you have the most compelling message ABOVE THE FOLD? Or, does your reader have to scroll down to find out what this is all about? Remember, you want them to trust you in 3-7 seconds, so make sure you put a lot of thought into those first few words and images.
A simple tool that lets you download videos from Facebook.
If you're doing Facebook Lives, or if you have content you posted on Facebook that you want on your computer now or want to load up on your website, this handy little tool will let you do just that.
By the way, you can download ANY video not just your own.
This is a paid extension, but I totally love it. It lets me send emails later. I can set my emails to pop up in the future, and I can send occurring emails. Saves me lots of time and hopefully makes me a better communicator with my clients.
We use a subscription format for our billing so the money is automatically debited from our client's credit card. Some of them need receipts on a monthly basis instead of year-end so I use it to send automated monthly receipts to clients. If a client or team member is away and I need to send them an email, I can future date it — that way it doesn't get stuck in the pile of emails they've accumulated while on vacation!
That's it for this week's tips. Let me know what other useful tools you guys have on your browsers! I'd love to know how to stay productive.
